Why Should I Learn to Work with Spreadsheets?

There are many people in today's society that have to use Excel or other spreadsheet tools for their jobs. In addition to this, many students have to use Excel, especially in colleges and universities, for their coursework.

How did these people learn how to use spreadsheet?

It's simple! Younger individuals are generally taught in school, especially today, how to use Excel because it is such a prominent software tool in today's professional world. Older people have to find other ways to learn how to use this useful tool.
Excel is a software that people commonly use to make spreadsheets, but it has a lot of capabilities.

It may seem very perplexing to someone that has never used it before, but it doesn't have to be and isn't once you learn how it works. There are many ways for a person to learn how to use Excel once they are no longer in school. Someone may be able to learn by just clicking on things and trying to do different excel functions , but most people will find that this is just too confusing.

If you're not looking to spend money to get Excel, you can start with Google Sheets. It's not as advanced as Excel, but does have a lot of capabilities. Collaboration is a great feature in Google Sheets. You can lock some part of the spreadhsheet and share it easily with anyone online.

If you're a student, you can also use Google Docs for day to day work such as writing essays or assignments. It has an inbuilt word counter that can be helpful.

One way that people try to learn is by using books or manuals.

Although this may help someone that already knows how to use the software as a reminder if they need help, it is not necessarily the best way to learn as a beginner. The reason for this is that it is a complex software that requires you to be able to actually practice what you are learning.

If you are unable to do so, you won't really understand why or how to do specific things and won't know if you do something wrong. Using a book while using the software on a computer can work as well, but it may be a little bit more difficult if you have to keep flipping pages while you are trying to create a spreadsheet.

There are seminars out there that cost people thousands of dollars and help people learn how to use the many parts of Excel. Although you will probably learn a lot of information from these seminars, no one wants to have to pay a large amount of money for this type of information.

There are often free online excel training or reduced price classes that libraries or community centers may offer. Even some community colleges may offer these classes to anyone that lives in that community. This is something to look into if you want to learn how to use Excel because it will save you money and you likely won't have to travel as far to get there.
